Dusk in downtown Todmorden

Looking towards the portico of the magnificent Victoria Town Hall in Todmorden, from the grounds of St Mary’s Church. At 10secs per shot, the long exposure captures a lot more variation in colour and detail than I could see at the time.

Langdale Pikes from Rakerigg

Langdale Pikes, The Lake District

The glorious colours of a Cumbrian autumn. Langdale was the first place I ever walked in the Lake District, and the sight of the fells like this still makes my heart race a little faster.

Inside Magma’s Product store, London

Magma Product store, London

Magma Product store, Earlham Street, London WC2

The esteemed design bookshop, Magma, opened a new outlet in summer 2007. Unlike the original store just up the road, this was designed to showcase the lines which complimented the brand’s original core book, dvd & t-shirt sales – namely designer products and crafts.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Magma, and this store caught my eye for its innovative use of corrugated board fixtures and shelving. For everything. The whole store interior is infinitely modular, modernist, and recyclable: it also looks great. Forget expensive wood, glass or metalwork, this is testament to clean simple and functional design, paired with good lighting. Thanks to the staff for allowing me to shoot inside the store and capture this innovative display.

The Bare Arts Gallery and Beer Shop, Todmorden

The Bare Arts Gallery and Beer Shop, Todmorden

The only licenced nude art gallery in the UK.

Not long after discovering the joys of Bare Arts, an independent outlet purveying fine home-brewed ales and lively nude paintings, I dropped in and took this shot on a typical Friday evening. It perfectly encapsulates the delightfully characteristic mix of people and products which makes it such a wonderful destination. Thanks to Trevor and Kathryn for their hospitality and enthusiasm!
